In the early days, when only U.N.B., P.W.C./U.P.E.I., and Memorial University had fencing clubs as far as the Maritimes was concerned, competitions were carried out at these institutions. Since then, many clubs have sprung up, some in the university context (Dal and S.M.U., for example), but many more not associated with such institutions. As a result, the Maritimes offer many opportunities for tournaments.
